For the past 30 years, the Roanoke Area Youth Substance Abuse Coalition (RAYSAC) sponsored the After Prom Grand Finale (APGF) as an extra incentive for students to attend and stay until the end of their school’s after-prom party. In the past 30 years of the event, NONE of the participating schools have experienced the tragedy of a drunk-driving accident on the night of their prom. A student survey revealed that the annual After Prom Grand Finale event at the end of the school year, with its opportunities for students to win a new car and valuable prizes, was a major incentive for students to attend their schools’ after-prom parties. Last year, 5,276 students from 40 high schools across Southwest Virginia stayed until the end of their school’s after-prom party. That is 5,276 youth who made it home safely to their families after one of the biggest nights of their young lives.
RAYSAC is proud of the After Prom Grand Finale’s 30-year life-saving legacy and is excited to announce that the event will now be under the ownership of the Youth of Virginia Speak Out about Traffic Safety (YOVASO) Advisory Board. The YOVASO Advisory Board, with its 18-year history of working to keep teen drivers safe on the roads, has supported this event for many years and is the perfect entity to carry the torch of After Prom Grand Finale. The YOVASO Advisory Board will work with First Team Auto, Virginia First and K92 to facilitate the 31st annual After Prom Grand Finale that will take place on June 2, 2019 in Roanoke.
